Ghana’s former Ambassador to Mali, Mr Mamoud Khalid, has applauded the security arrangement for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential primary in the Upper West Region.

“There is order and there is a good sense of security, there is a great improvement over what has happened before.

“I think the organisers put in place adequate measures to eliminate all the hassles of the previous elections.”

Mr Khalid was speaking to journalists, minutes after casting his vote in Wa.

“What I have seen is evidence that education has gone down well.”

Seven candidates are in the race for the party’s presidential ticket for Election 2020.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vincent Appiah, the Wa Municipal Police Commander, said the police were in full of control of the election security.

He added that adequate personnel had been deployed to deal with any troublemakers.

Motorbikes were not allowed within 50 metres of the polling centres.

The Regional Director of Elections, Mr Ismael Dibkuu, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that voting had been going on smoothly at all the polling stations.

About 9,314 delegates are expected to vote in the election in 11 constituencies in the region.
