I have been under the weather so hasn?t commented extensively on the happenings within the NPP especially what transpired at their headquarters yesterday. The little I can say for now is this; these problems are expectant and I wrote a piece on that. We shouldn?t swim in happiness seeing the party in turbulence, it is one of the finest political organizations we have on the continent and the more organized and vibrant they become, the better it would be for our democracy.
My wish is to see a vibrant third force party emerging to exert positive pressure on the two dominant parties to safeguard the interests of the masses. What the NPP must quickly do, is to move away from that historical linkage and see the party as a modern day party made up of persons who think alike but not as descendants of some forebearers it will continue to create unnecessary problems for the party and also invite unnecessary divisions. From the onset, the party should have seen itself as an institution inclined to the right purposely established to fight the leftist philosophy of the PNDC that would have solidified their internal pillars instead of this historical allegiances.
The NDC must quickly move into the upper chamber to seriously assess the situation to inform their decisions before congress and after congress. What the party must realize is that, as we speak the public have moved into a rather different frame of mind and there is a desire among sections of the public for certain decisions to be taken by their regime like lower taxation, tougher administration of the social services and solution to our challenged economy. The NPP is benefiting from these public sentiments and they are doing all they could convincing the electorates that an NPP administration could actually cut taxes, solve our energy problems, fix the economy creating the impression that, to solve these problems is beyond any other government. Our priority for now is to kill this impression and propaganda by fulfilling what we promised the electorates else, we may end up creating greater irritation and disillusionment among the electorates which wouldn?t augur well for us come the next elections.
How do we do that?, we can only avert future problems if we act in concert to genuinely support the administration having in mind that, the survival or otherwise of the party depends on what it does in government. To do that is getting right persons to take over the administration of the party. People have serious issues with my write-ups on our congress but that is wrong. We are developing as a party and must accommodate innovative ideas which would propel us to a greater height. We can?t make our party machinery and the support base seasonal in operation, going to them or using them when elections reach, it is unorthodox and utopian. You don?t have to waste monies to lure people to your side during elections after years of neglect, it is only divine you soberly step down for more effective persons to take over that is when you really love your party and nation. It isn?t only through executive positions that one can support party, we have diverse areas one can fully utilize his given talent, to block more effective persons from helping the system is demonic.
The government needs party support than ever, all NDC governments especially Rawlings government survived external wrath and performed credibly, because of the support it enjoyed from the support base coupled with very solid party executive. As we speak, we need persons who would make party as effective as the government, each entity shouldn?t act as a surrogate to the other it is dangerous. The party structures from the branch to the constituencies must stay awake and become more operational, the era where party activities were centralized, is gone, with the introduction of the decentralization programme, party activities must also follow same policy to ensure vibrancy and effective administration.
Ending this little write-up, I am urging the NDC to be extra careful and circumspect as they prepare for their congress, the destiny of the party would depend hugely on those to be elected. We shouldn?t also go through similar tribulation as the NPP is going through after elections, we shouldn?t create unnecessary divisions and blocks we must count ourselves lucky having the founder alive, whatever some people may try to perpetuate, the man remains the driving force behind the party and we must use him adequately to ensure peace and unity within.
The President needs our support, we can?t leave him unprotected for some under performers to unreasonably attack him, the government is embarking on major projects but may be ineffective organization is holding back the projections.
Thanks All
