• As Deployed Military men Indiscriminately Whip Residents Over DCEs

Information gathered by The Moment indicates that some Military officers have been deployed to Nanumba Districts of the Northern Region to allegedly instill fear in residents ahead of the re-nomination of the Nanumba North DCE, Hon Mohammed Ibn Abass for another term.

The hint of his re-nomination caused serious uproar last week with residents expressing grave concern about the decision of the President to re-nominate him, Mohammed Ibn Abass for Nanumba North, and Hon. Amidu Seidu as the DCE for Nanumba South, sending death threats in that regard.

Checks conducted as at yesterday, Wednesday 31st July 2013, some military men invaded Nanumba North in their attempt to put fear into the people ahead of Mohammed Ibn Abass? re-nomination, beat people, harassed business men and indiscriminately whipping passersby at will.

Motor bikes belonging to residents were seized by the officers and huge sums of monies were demanded from people before their motor bikes could be released.

It was also established that these military men also demanded unspecified amount of money from businessmen selling wood, failure to comply with mean facing he brutal assault from the military men.

Victims of the attack, one Ibrahim and Kadir revealed that their motor bikes were taken away from them and when they wanted to retrieve them, they were asked to pay. This development even though had in a way put fear in residents; they seemed to be much ready to reject the re-nomination of their DCE.

Information received from the Assembly also indicated that majority of the Assembly members are against the DCE?s re-nomination and have since vowed to vote against him during the Assembly elections.

However, few hours after brutally assaulting residents, information alleged that the DCE, Mohammed Ibn Abas had a closed door meeting with the military men in the town. The said meeting according to sources lasted for about three hours.
