Nana Addo displays the endorsed T shirt
Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo yesterday endorsed the Humanity Cup in aid of the Ambassador Pamela Bridgewater Children’s Village at Tampion in the Savelugu/Nanton District of the Northern Region.
“It’s time for Ghana as a country to wake up and help address the ‘kayayei’ phenomenon. They are our girls and deserve better,” he said at the endorsement ceremony.
He welcomed what he described as “a noble peace match not only to unite Ghanaians but to create awareness on the future of northern girls on our streets”.
Director of the Kunata Voluntary Organization, the NGO spearheading the project, Yahaya Alhassan, expressed his profound appreciation to the NPP flagbearerer for the gesture and added that he was convinced President John Evans Atta Mills would endorse the Humanity Cup as well.
“It’s a national call, and a cause dear to Nana’s heart. He is a peace maker and looking at the trajectory of the project, its clear the President, Prof John Evan Atta Mills, will also endorse it,” he noted.
Mr Alhassan reiterated his appreciation to Nana Addo, adding, “The greatest form of leadership is the promotion of peace, and in endorsing the Humanity Cup, that’s what our leaders are doing, from Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan to Hon Muhammad Mumuni and today Nana Akuffo Addo.”
He described the year as a ‘’kayayei’’ year, disclosing that the match would be played between the two most glamorous clubs in the country, Hearts and Kotoko, on 2nd and 9th September 2012 at both Baba Yara and Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, alongside many other sporting and recreational activities for the girls at Manhyia Palace Park and El Wak Stadium in Accra.
