Naming Ceremony, Neighbor’s New Responsibility

I was invited by my neighbor to his baby’s naming ceremony this morning. It was all an event of bliss and glamour. There was enough reason to smile for and it brought together other ripple effects as well; family reunion for the two families, friends met again after many years apart, joy was in the air and above all many saw the new born baby, beautifully dressed to match his mothers apparel. The man was the usual man we have all been; directing his effort to get things done right than a focus on how he looked. It was his house anyway.
As I heard the name being read the room was quite and all sat with rapt attention. A new recognition, a new identification mark is being assigned and that was the climax of the occasion. It was a happy moment to attend this occasion and see what joy meant to a family of three welcoming a third one.
What was weird in my thinking was the sense of heaviness I felt for this child. He has been born into an unfriendly world; unlike the one his grandfather, the MC, for the occasion grew in although prayer was said, asking for same for him. I was wondering how that could be granted to the child.
I felt sorry for the boy and the parents and eventually felt sad for me and my boys as well. It was an occasion to reflect on the sense of responsibility that lies on me and the parents to bring this boy up being a neighbor and a man of influence. My life style has an influence on this innocent kid. He is going to develop a mentality based on what the society exposes him to.
The biggest worry I had was with respect to the quality of the wisdom we all have for this kid and how can we make him better that we are as a society? Is there any drive by society to make life for these innocent chaps better or we are only looking out for how we can destroy them through our inactions?
