Speaking during the celebration of the World Radio Day at Gobabis (about 200 kilometers) Saturday, information minister Tjekero Tweya said radio saves lives hence the government’s desire to make sure the whole country is covered.
“Radio brings lifesaving information and I signed an agreement to do what I have agreed to do,” he said, adding that radio provides information regularly and goes as far as being a vibrant contributor to social debate and development.
According to Tweya, currently Namibia has 78 percent radio coverage.
This theme resonates well with Namibia where the country experiences floods and recently an outbreak of foot-and-mouth.
“Radio plays an essential role and it impacts society by providing instant communication at all times. Many people think that you have to be on television but radio is equally important. You cannot walk around with your television set, but you can walk around with your radio,” the minister said. Enditem
