In 2015, Namibia awarded an 8 billion Namibia dollars (545 million U.S dollars) tenders to Xaris Energy for work on the 250MW gas-fired power plant at the coastal town of Walvis Bay as a stop-gap measure.

Kandjoze also said Namibia has secured enough power supply to last until 2019.

The government, he said, has also set aside 67 million Namibian dollars (4.6 million U.S dollars) for rural electrification that has so far seen 110 public institutions and 340 households electrified. Enditem
