TransNamib confirmed in a statement Wednesday that the train drivers, their assistants and shunters had gone on a strike.

The parastatal also confirmed that the strike was about demands for a “substantial increase in their wages and related benefits”.
TransNamib has described the strike as illegal citing failure to follow protocol by the workers who belong to the Namibia Transport and Allied Workers Union (Natau).
Struggle Ihuhua, the railway company’s spokesperson said the protocol relating to salaries is between TransNamib and Natau, the sole and recognized representative of our employees.
The TransNamib acting human capital executive Mike Wamunyima said the company has no choice but to approach the labour court.
The workers spokesperson, Siegfried Albertus Gawaseb however accused TransNamib of ignoring their demands and failing to meet the Nov. 9 deadline. Enditem
