Officially opening the third session of the 6th parliament in Windhoek, Geingob said Namibia’s electoral processes must be transparent and above board so that those who lose elections will admit that they have been defeated and will not complain and run to the courts.

He also said since parliamentarians carry the people’s hopes, fears and dreams, they should speak and represent the hundreds who look up to them.
The 6th parliament will run under the theme “Striving towards Gender Equality” and raising awareness against Gender-based Violence.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Peter Katjavivi, said they chose this theme because of the unacceptable levels of gender-based violence in Namibia.
“This theme will be our lodestar throughout the year. It is essential that the entire country is united against gender-based violence,” he said. Enditem
