In his speech, Geingob said the Osona Village initiative will contribute not only to the targeted deliverables of the Harambee Prosperity Plan, but to the wider development objectives of Namibia.

Under the Harambee plan that Geingob launched in March this year, the government intends to build 20,000 houses and service 26,000 plots within the next four years.

The housing project is a joint venture between the government, the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) and the Preferred Management Services.

The GIPF that has a 90 billion Namibia dollar (6.4 billion U.S dollars) portfolio in assets is now providing houses to its members, and more than 3, 000 have benefited since 2014.

“I am pleased by the fact that the GIPF, as part of its commitment to alleviating problems with regards to Land Servicing and Housing, is supporting Governments efforts by targeting to take up at least 30 percent of the deliverables of the plan,” he said. Enditem
