The commission has been securing long-term rent in Medina for pilgrims

The National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) will sustain its semi-permanent accommodation arrangement in Medina for intending pilgrims from Nigeria, Uba Mana, the Head of Public Relations, NAHCON said on Wednesday.

He  disclosed that for the past two years, the commission had been securing long-term rent in Medina for pilgrims.

Muslim pilgrims move to Medina after performing all rights in Mecca, for a period of eight days for prayers, after which they return to Mecca.

Mana said that the arrangement was made in the interest of the pilgrims, to ensure that they were not disorganised while performing the spiritual rites.

“Normally, pilgrims are not supposed to exceed eight days in Medina but the commission has decided to rent a place for them for at least the duration of two months,” he said.

“The arrangement became necessary because not all the pilgrims arrived in Mecca at the same time. While some go to Medina first, others go to Mecca first. So, there is need for the long-term rent so that pilgrims will not have to wait at the airport. The commission’s team at the airport receives and takes the pilgrims to their various accommodations during Hajj.”
