More members of the Clergy have added their voice to the condemnation of polygamous marriage proposed by some pastors in Kumasi and Accra recently, stressing that the proposal has no biblical background and will bring untold hardship on people who engage in it.
The Agona Swedru branch pastor of the Great Word of God Church, Rev. David Atta Amoah and the Area Head of the Christ Apostolic Church [C.A.C.] at Agona Swderu, Rev. Baffour Awuah have both condemned the proposal by the pastors in no uncertain terms, describing them as self-styled men of God who are using the Old Testament scripture to propagate their evil deeds.
Using biblical quotations such as Matt. 5:31-32; Heb. 8:7; Matt. 19:5-6 and 1 Cor. 5:7 to buttress their argument, Rev. Atta Amoah and Rev. Baffour Awuah challenged the five self-acclaimed men of God who are propagating the message to prove anywhere in the New Testament where the Bible supports polygamy or where any leader after Jesus Christ married more than one woman.
According to the two members of the Clergy, apart from the fact that the Bible abhors polygamous marriage, it also brings untold hardship on people who engage in the practice.
Responding to as to why the forefathers married more than one woman,they explained that that was the period little or no value was not given to education and children borne out of marriage were only used in farming activities and as such there was plenty of harvest to cater for the family.
According to them, the present day situation, with its associated harsh economic conditions is far different from that period, considering the education of two or three children nowadays, let alone giving birth to many children with various women.
Further, the two members of the Clergy again revealed that God allowed Abraham, Jacob and even Solomon and David as mentioned by the five self-styled pastors to marry more than one woman for a purpose as He dealt with them directly, especially in the case of Abraham and Jacob.
They again contended that even in the case of Solomon and David, the story was different as their life ended on a bad note because of multiple marriages.
They have therefore warned the public to disregard the proposal of the self-acclaimed men of God, as according to them, God created one man and one woman and ordered them to give birth to replenish the earth, but not one man to multiple women.
