MTN, the leading telecommunications company in Ghana, has successfully ended its month-long regional celebrations, Ashantifest, in the Ashanti Region.
In an interview after the end of Ashantifest, the CEO of MTN, Michael Ikpoki said ?the month of May was dedicated to celebrating the people of Asanteman because we value our relationship with the key stakeholders.?
He said, ?MTN has seen yet another successful celebration of Ashantifest and we are happy to say that this year?s celebration has experienced greater achievements and benefits for the people of Ashanti Region?.
The activities started on Friday, May 3, with a merchandising blitz, as part of which key areas of Ashanti Region were branded with MTN paraphernalia.
There was replacement of trade elements such as umbrellas and tables for vendors across the region. To give subscribers practical knowledge of MTN?s vital products and services and bring customer care to the doorstep of MTN?s customers, data activation centres were set up in various commercial areas in and around Kumasi for the duration of Ashantifest.
As part of the Ashantifest celebrations, the MTN Ghana Foundation commissioned two new projects in the region. These include the commissioning and furnishing of a theatre and lying-in ward for the Fomena Health Centre, and the provision of a 20-seater ICT Centre as well as a refurbished school block for the Akyawkrom D/A Junior High School near Ejisu.
There was also a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 200-capacity boys? dormitory block for the Owerriman Secondary School. The projects, expected to benefit thousands of children and adults in the areas of education and healthcare, were received with great joy and commendations for MTN.
The Asantehene Gold Cup tournament was one of the integral parts of the sporting activities that climaxed the Ashantifest celebrations. It was organized from May 24 ? 26 at the Royal Golf Club.
Mr. Ikpoki thanked Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the entire Asanteman for choosing MTN as a reliable partner and assured the people of Asanteman that MTN would continue to work to brighten the lives of its customers and the communities in which they live.
During a visit with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to the Kotoko Training Centre at Adako Jachie, Mr. Ikpoki presented a cheque of GH?150,000.00 towards the building of a sports complex for Kumasi Asante Kotoko and announced a renewal of MTN?s contract with the football club.
As part of the sporting activities, a health walk was organized on Monday, May 27, with some Keep Fit Clubs and MTN staff in Kumasi.
