HEALTH DELIVERY in the Asunafo South district of the Brong Ahafo region has been given a huge boost following the donation of medical supplies by the area’s Member of Parliament (MP), George Yaw Boakye to all twelve health facilities in the district.
Each of the heath facilities located at Kukuom, Noberkaw, Kwapong, Sankore, Asarekrom, Siana, Abuom, Beposo, Kokooso, Naketey, New Sawireso and the 1000 Acres Cocoa Clinic, received various equipment including delivery beds, patient examination beds, diagnostic kits (ENT), crutches, infection protection kits, injury kits, syringes and stethoscopes.
The medical supplies worth about GH¢50,000 were procured in conjunction with the HART Foundation, a charitable organization based at Utah in the US of which the MP is a member.
Mr. Boakye donated 25 sewing machines and 15 hair dryers to some young girls who have learnt vocational skills to enable them to establish their own shops.
He also provided five satellite decoders to five police stations in the constituency while the Sankore ‘A’ JHS also received 24 laptops to enhance ICT study in the area.
The donation was a follow-up gesture by the MP who brought a medical team and other surgical equipment from the HART Foundation about two months ago to both the Asunafo South and North districts. At the time, over 5000 residents were treated free of charge for various ailments and 97 of them had major surgical operations.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Sankore which attracted a large crowd including chiefs, health workers, the police and school children, Mr. Boakye thanked HART Foundation for the collaboration which he said has gone a long way to enhance quality health care in the constituency.
The MP said through HART Foundation, he has been able to procure a very large consignment of medical supplies for the district which is yet to be installed at the Kukuom Health Centre. “My intention is to construct a first-class orthopaedic centre in the district which will be a reference point in the region and the nation at large,” he said.
He said as MP his priority is to develop the constituency and warned trouble makers in the area to change their ways to ensure lasting peace and rapid development.
Mr. Boakye also appealed to the clergy in the district to continue to pray for peace in the run-up to the December 7 parliamentary and presidential elections.
He called on the constituents to engage in productive politics and avoid “counter-productive and infantile politics” which will not bring about any development in the district.
The MP condemned the recent attack on patients and hospital staff at the Sankore Health Centre by one Al-Qaeda, a notorious thug in the area believed to be an NDC sympathizer.
The MP for Offinso North, Augustine Collins Ntim, described Mr. Boakye as a humble, God-fearing man whose hard work has brought massive development to the area and called on the people to renew his mandate.
Asunafo South District Director of Health Services, Winifred Tienaah commended the MP for the supplies and promised to ensure judicious usage of them.
