As part of his efforts to promote education in the country, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle Constituency in the Western region, Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has donated over thousand pens to final year students who are currently sitting for the 2012 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) exercise in his constituency.
The gesture was part of the MPs commitment towards the development of education in his constituency which was also aimed at encouraging the one thousand three hundred and forty-two (1,342) candidates to put up their best in the on-going examination exercise in order to excel.
In a message read on his behalf by the Ellembelle District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Daniel K. Eshun, at a short non-denominational service and seminar organized and sponsored by the MP at the forecourt of Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School (NASS) last Monday morning, the MP encouraged the students to remain calm and focused on their studies throughout the examination period.
According to Mr Kofi Buah, examination periods are the most crucial moments that some students become frustrated and lose concentration and urged them to refrain from being overshadowed by the spirit of panic.
He motivated the students to use the BECE period as their first step in life and fight hard to achieve the best grades in other to continue to the next level on the academic ladder.
“As students we must be guided by the Holy Spirit and pray for the Lord’s divine favours throughout the examination period and it is my wish that all students would perform well,” he added.
Mr Buah, who also doubles as the deputy Minister of Energy-in charge of Petroleum, reiterated his firm commitment to support brilliant but needy students who would excel in the examination irrespective of their background.
He called on parents to support their wards throughout the examination period by giving them the needed attention and treatment.
He further appealed to examiners to apply the rules without fear or favour but dispassionately as well as refrain from activities that would intimidate the students.
The Ellembelle Examination Coordinator, Mr Bernard Yankey, on behalf of the GES Directorate thanked the MP for his support towards the development of education in the District as well as the region at large.
He added that the office of the MP has been very supportive to the District Educational Directorate in so many avenues.
He mentioned Hon Buah’s continued sponsoring of mock exams for all the Junior High School (JHS) finalists since 2009, supplying of educational materials such as text and exercise books and other teaching and learning materials to both students and schools across the District.
The Coordinator, who also bears the chieftaincy title Nana Nyamekye Fofoleh II and chief of Ampaim, a suburb of Essiama in the Western Region, called on the MP to continue with his benevolence which is aimed at promoting education in the rural parts of the country.
This event which is the third in series to be organized and sponsored by the office of the Ellembelle Member of Parliament (MP), was meant to encourage, sensitise and inculcate the essence of understanding and obeying examination rules into the both JHS and SHS finalist in the area.
This, was performed by some resource personalities such as examiners, invigilators and other stakeholders from the Ghana Education Service (GES).
It was also aimed at serving as the platform for some of the renowned personalities of the area such as chiefs, politicians, business personalities to share their experiences and encourage students as they get prepared to write their exams.
