Melcom Care Foundation, the charity wing of the Melcom Group of Companies, has donated 9 Digital LED Television Sets and 30 Cartons of Melcom Nsupa Water to be given to Nine regional marathon winners.
Presenting the items, the Director of Communications, Melcom Group of Companies Mr. Godwin Avenorgbo, said Melcom Care by its nature is about charity. Their aim is to give back to the society.This he said, Melcom’s love for Sport in the country cannot be underestimated.
According to him, the Digital Television sets which will be given to each regional Champions, is to keep them abreast with global events and the large quantity of the Melcom Nsupa is to refresh Marathon Runners and officials
“As you are well aware , Accra and for that matter Ghana will be the focus of the global sporting world on 5th September when this country witnesses the greatest marathon of this century in the history of mother Ghana”, he noted.
This he said, Melcom Care is embarking on this benevolent exercise since they are proud of Ghanaians for their support for their business enterprises.
“Today we are gathered to witness another presentation in support of global event that Melcom believes will give Ghana the following benefits:
Rejuvenate the Ghanaian interest in mass support events- Create a platform for mass keep fit movement in effort to build a healthy nation -An opportunity to use the marathon to attract healthy and competitive sports tourists – Use the numbers to generate growth in the hospitality, transport and other sectors of the economy”, he explained.
More so, he indicated that, earlier this year Melcom has donated trophies towards the promotion of sports and academic exellence to some selected nursery, primary and junior High Schools.
Ambassador Ashim Morton, Managing Partner of the Millennium Marathon Sports Company receiving the items, commended Melcom Care Foundation for embarking on such benevolent exercise . This he said, the donation will go a long way to help make the event a successful one .
According to Ambassador Morton, the objective of the event is to create the atmosphere with the awareness to fitness and healthy living as well as opportunity for international business, because an Expo would be held for six days at the Aviation Social Centre in Accra where companies with sports and health wares and services will have the opportunity to exhibit and expose themselves to the public at very close range.
He said Marathon in Ghana would also go a long way to boost the confidence of the youth to take sports seriously and become sports icons for the country. He encouraged Ghanaians to exercise regularly to ensure healthy lifestyles.
The event would be the first to be hosted by Ghana and would commence from the Independence Square through the principal streets of Accra and end at the Independence Square.
