Mel B has definitively shut down hopes of a Spice Girls reunion tour or documentary as the group prepares to mark 30 years since their breakthrough, delivering a candid assessment that leaves fans with little to celebrate beyond the music itself.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Hello! magazine, the singer confirmed the reunion tour is not happening, saying: “I can tell you it’s not happening. If it does, it’ll be a shock to me.”
On the question of a documentary, Mel B said discussions had taken place but expressed doubt over whether the project could be done properly. “It has to be done in the right way, and it has to be honest — and not everybody wants to be honest,” she said.
Reports earlier this year indicated that a Netflix special marking the group’s 30th anniversary had already been shelved, with sources pointing to tension between Mel B and fellow member Geri Horner as a contributing factor.
Despite the collapsed plans, Mel B was warm about the group’s enduring connection. “We’re like family; our umbilical cords are all tied together,” she said, while adding that she is unsure she would want to return to the stage.
The Spice Girls last performed as a full five-piece at the London 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony. A 2019 stadium tour went ahead without Victoria Beckham, who cited family and business commitments.
Mel C had offered a more optimistic outlook in March, saying the group “want to do something” and that she remains hopeful fans will see the Spice Girls together again at some point, without specifying when.
The group’s debut single “Wannabe” was released in June 1996, with their debut album Spice following in September of that year. The 30th anniversary falls this June with no confirmed group activity planned.
