Ghanaian rapper Medikal has declared his intention to build a legacy that extends beyond music, announcing a planned tour and outlining ambitions in youth advocacy and social impact, days after winning four awards at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
Speaking on Joy Prime’s Prime Time, the rapper said he was already in discussions with his team about a major tour featuring several personalities and media figures, though specific details remain under wraps.
He made clear the shift in focus was deliberate. “I don’t want to be remembered for that artiste who was dropping bangers all over,” Medikal said, adding that tangible community contributions, from youth outreach on drug abuse to building schools or hospitals, define the kind of legacy he now chases.
The announcement comes on the back of one of his strongest award season performances. Medikal picked up four honours at the 2026 TGMA, including Most Popular Song of the Year for “Shoulder,” a collaboration with Shatta Wale and Beeztrap KOTM. He described his opening win of the night as a surprise, saying he had barely settled into his seat before his name was called.
Despite missing out on the night’s biggest prize, Medikal congratulated winner Black Sherif with genuine warmth. He described the Artiste of the Year result as deserved, praised Black Sherif’s output over the past year including his music, album and concert, and framed the victory in deeply personal terms given their friendship.
“To see my brother win, it’s almost as if myself picking up the plaque,” Medikal said.
Black Sherif beat both Medikal and Wendy Shay to claim the top honour of the night.
