Medeama SC are back on top of the Ghana Premier League after a commanding matchweek 27 that produced a seismic title race shift, with the Mauve and Yellow boys holding a narrow one-point lead over defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars following the weekend’s results.

Medeama secured a 2-0 win over bottom-placed Eleven Wonders FC at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium to move onto 49 points. Striker Kelvin Obeng broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute, guiding a clever header from a Fatawu Sulemana corner, before midfielder Salim Adams doubled the lead six minutes later with a precise free-kick.

The victory proved perfectly timed. In Tamale, Karela United FC knocked Bibiani Gold Stars off the summit with a stunning 2-0 result at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. Mohammed Awal Alhassan and Felix Mortu both found the net in the first half to hand the league leaders a damaging defeat that dropped Gold Stars to second place on 48 points. The result means Karela have now beaten all of the current top five teams at home this season, lifting them to sixth with 41 points.

The battle for third and fourth is equally tight. Asante Kotoko SC and Hearts of Oak SC are both level on 43 points, separated only by goal difference. Kotoko could not find a winner in a goalless draw at Dormaa against Aduana FC, a result that left Aduana fifth with 42 points. Hearts, meanwhile, dropped more points at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Swedru All Blacks led 2-0 before Mawuli Wayo and Frank Duku salvaged a 2-2 draw for the Phobians. The result extended Hearts’ winless run to five matches.

Dreams FC kept their own form strong with a 3-0 dismantling of Hohoe United FC in Tema. Aminu Adams, Suraj Seidu and Abdul Razak Salifu were all on target as Dreams extended their impressive run while pushing Hohoe deeper into relegation trouble.

At the other end of the table, Young Apostles boosted their survival prospects with a 3-0 win over Heart of Lions in Wenchi. Claude Shooting Bortey scored twice in the first half before Richmond Opoku completed the win. Bechem United claimed a vital 2-1 away victory over FC Samartex 1996, with Samuel Okai and Yaw Annor scoring the decisive goals. Nations FC drew 1-1 with Berekum Chelsea, Brandon Antwi’s late equalizer cancelling out Samuel Tenadu’s opener.

Eleven Wonders remain rooted to the bottom with just 10 points from 27 games and appear certain to be relegated. The fight for the remaining two relegation spots is intense, with Hohoe United on 30 points and Berekum Chelsea and Swedru All Blacks on 32 each.
