
The Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije has lead officials from the Assembly to cut sods for the construction of more Millennium City Schools and other infrastructural edifices in the Metropolis.
The Mayor?s first point of call was the Achimota School, where he cut sod for the construction of a 2 storey units Girls? Dormitory which will be housing girls students who don?t have the opportunity to get themselves housed within the school.
The project which has been awarded to Francis National Board (FNB) Investments Limited is scheduled to be completed in June Next year, 2015.
Doing the sod cutting for the construction to take off, the Mayor of Accra Dr Vanderpuije noted that the project was in fulfilment of a promise the late President John Evans Atta Mills made to the school.
According to the Mayor, President John Mahama has expressed commitment to the promise the late President made to the school, hence the allocation of funds for the project to commence.
He assured the school that the project will not be a nine-day wonder but will ensure that the works department of the Assembly constantly monitor work on the project to ensure smooth completion.
On her part, the Headmistress of Achimota School, Mrs Beatrice Tsotsoo Adum expressed appreciation to the Mayor and the AMA for coming to their aide.
According to the Headmistress, the construction of the girls? dormitory will help the school to accommodate day students who are willing to be at the boarding house.
Later in the day, the Mayor and his entourage also carried out a similar assignment at the Accra College of Education.
There, the Mayor cut a sod for the construction of a three unit classroom block for the College. This is to enable teacher trainees do their teaching practices in the school.
The building the Mayor noted will be a complete Primary and Junior High School that will be a teaching and training point for teacher trainees from the institution, who will be supervised by trained teachers.
The construction project at the Accra College of Education is awarded to Yakon Investments Limited which is also scheduled to be completed in a year.
On Tuesday, June 3rd 2014, the Mayor will continue with the sod cutting ceremony at other locations including Mamobi, Accra New Town Experimental and Abavana Cluster of schools.
He will also be at the Salvation school compound and Zamrama line compound schools on Wednesday June 4, 2014 to cut sod for projects for the construction of educational infrastructure.
