Thomas Okwuba, 52, was on Monday, charged with causing grievous harm at an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos after he allegedly assaulted a housewife and removed her teeth.
Okwuba, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The police prosecutor, Uche Kalu, told the court that the accused allegedly punched Ekaette Daniel, removing her teeth, and also used an iron rod to inflict injuries on her head, following a disagreement.
He said that the offence, which was committed on May 20 at about 7.15 p.m. at V-Comer Terminal, Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos, contravened Section 177 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
According to the prosecutor, the victim is still receiving treatment for the injuries she sustained in the attack.
The Chief Magistrate, A. K. Shonubi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She said that the surety should show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.
The magistrate adjourned the case to June 18 for further hearing.
