Idris Saheed, 22, was on Wednesday sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for robbery by a Shomolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Delivering judgment in the case, Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi, did not, however, give the convict an option of fine.
“Based on the facts before this court and confirmed reports, I hereby sentence you to six months imprisonment, without an option of fine,” Osunsanmi said.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Akinlabi Adegoke, had earlier told the court that Saheed, of no fixed address, was on October 2, at 8:15 p.m. apprehended at the Onipanu pedestrian bridge, Shomolu for snatching a pedestrian’s bag.

He said that Saheed was apprehended by pedestrians who witnessed the incident and handed over to the police.

Adegoke said two phones were found in his possession, which he could not account for.

He said investigations had shown that he had earlier robbed another pedestrian of his phones at Iyana-Ipaja on October 1.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 285 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
