Ebenezer Daramola had pleaded not guilty to the offence

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Wednesday, sentenced Ebenezer Daramola, 41, to two years in prison for setting his neighbour on fire over a misunderstanding.
Daramola, of Agege area of the state, had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of threatening to kill and attempted murder.
However, Magistrate A. F. Botoku was not impressed, as he found Daramola guilty on the second count of attempted murder of one Miss Folake Badmus.
Daramola’s guilty verdict was without an option of fine.
He was found guilty of pouring kerosene from a lighted stove on Badmus during a quarrel, which in turn, sparked fire and burnt parts of her body.
The prosecutor, Julius Oyakhilome, had informed the court that the incident happened two years ago between the two neighbours.
He said Daramola’s offences contravened Sections 86 and 320 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
