The Central Regional office of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) has arrested a 22-year-old driver, Kofi Mensah, for having sex with his 19-year old sister, Ama Essumanba, at Abaka, near Abura Dunkwa in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District of the Central Region.

Kofi Mensah and the sister are both of the same parentage with Ama Essumanba nursing a month old baby.
Briefing Today in a telephone interview in Cape Coast on Monday, the Central Regional DOVVSU Coordinator, DSP George Appiah-Sakyi, stated that Kofi Mensah was arrested upon a formal complaint made by his mother, Adjoa Francisca, about the immoral conduct of her children.

DSP Appiah-Sakyi further stated that Adjoa Francisca was forced to report the issue to the police when Kofi Mensah threatened to beat her severely if she does not allow them to enjoy his amorous relationship with his sister.

He added that Adjoa Francisca even went ahead to take GH¢40 from her son as dowry for Ama Essumanba and would have kept the issue a secret had it not been for the threat on her life by the son.

Against this background, Kofi Mensah was arrested and charged together with Ama Essumanba for incest according to section 105 of the criminal offences act while the mother was also charged for aiding and abetting according to section 20 of the same act.

The DOVVSU Coordinator added that they [culprits] will soon be arraigned before court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, investigation conducted by Today has revealed that Ama Essumanba was based in Liberia and came to Ghana to give birth to a baby boy whom she was carrying when she arrived in the country.

According to a family source close to Today, Ama Essumanba and Kofi Mensah started developing strong affection for each other shortly after she had given birth resulting in the two becoming secret lovers.

The source further hinted that their mother was later informed about the development by her other children and she monitored them closely to ascertain the truth.

The source added that persistent attempts made by the mother and other siblings of the two to persuade the two to discontinue their forbidden act proved futile as Kofi Mensah threatened to deal with anyone particularly the mother if she dared to stop them.
