An Accra circuit court on Thursday jailed a 28-year old mechanic, Kweku Adusei 10 years for defiling a child under the age of 16, contrary to section 101 of Act 29/60. Adusei was said to have defiled the girl, 11, at Tantra Hill in the Greater Accra Region. The court, presided over by Mrs Sedina Agbemava, convicted Adusei after investigation found him guilty of the offence. Adusei, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence. Police Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the court that the complainant, Yao Dzivor, 31, who is the uncle of the victim stays in the same house with the convict at Tantra Hill. He said on May 10, 2012 at about 1930 hours, the convict sent the victim with 50 pesewas to buy 20 pesewas worth of sachet water and a mosquito coil for him. He said when the victim brought the items to the convict, he lured her into his room, removed her under pant and forcibly had sex with her on a plywood lying on the bare floor in the room. The prosecution told the court that after the act the convict gave GH?40.00 to the victim and warned her not to disclose the act to anybody, adding that if she dared reveal it to anyone, he would engage people to beat and kill her. He said the victim revealed the ordeal to her mother who also informed the complainant on the same day. The complainant later confronted the convict about the issue and pleaded with him (the convict) to accompany him (the complainant) to a certain man to help settle the case at home. Police Inspector Atimbire said the complainant then arrested the convict to the Achimota Mile 7 Police Station where he made a report against him, after which a police medical form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital for examination. He said on May 12 the complainant and the convict were referred to the Tesano DOVVSU, where the convict in his caution statement admitted the offence and was duly charged after investigation.
