Black Maidens
Ghana?s Black Maidens will earn US$3,000 each for winning bronze at the 2012 FIFA U17 Women?s World Cup.
The reward was announced by the country?s President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday when he hosted the team at the Osu, Castle seat of government.
The Maidens beat Germany 1-0 for third place last Saturday with ten girls in Baku thanks to captain Priscilla Okyere.
?You would have received a bonus had you qualified for the finals,? President Mahama said.
?I have instructed him (referring to Sports Minister) to pay that bonus to you.
?Not only pay that bonus but then it should be doubled and paid to you.
?This is a small token to show appreciation of the nation for making all of us proud at the World Cup.?
Meanwhile, the Maidens got the ministerial seal of approval Wednesday as they were treated to dinner by the Greater Accra Minister.
Hon. Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo was the host at the reception given to the members of Black Maidens team and a Ghana Football Association delegation including its President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
The dinner was held at the regional minister?s residence.
Ghana?s U-17 women?s team last Saturday finished third at the FIFA U-17 Women?s World Cup Azerbaijan 2012 after beating Germany 1-0.
And that feat which handed them bronze is Ghana?s best-ever finish at a FIFA women?s competition and the furthest by any African side at the FIFA U-17 Women?s World Cup.
