The controversial cars

The Board of Governors at Adisadel College in Cape Coast has disputed allegation by some media houses that the outgoing headmaster of the school, Dr K.K. Graham was presented with four vehicles as his end of service benefits by the college at his recent send-off party.

According to the Board, the said occasion was the outgoing headmaster?s 60th birthday celebration and not a send-off party, as was speculated in the media.

At a fact finding deliberation on the issue attended by the Board of Governors and chaired by the Diocesan Bishop of the Anglican Church in Cape Coast on February 14, 2014, Bishop Daniel S.A Allotey stated that the occasion was a private affair with invitations extended to the college board, school management, his colleague headmasters and headmistresses as well as friends and loved ones.

?The send-off ceremony is yet to take place and we would even call your attention to it when the time comes,? they added.

In a press release issued to some selected media houses and signed by Bishop Allotey and the Assistant Headmistress who is also the Secretary to the Board, it noted that the two vehicles presented to Dr Graham at the occasion were donated to him by his family and the church he worships with.

The Board pointed out that neither the college nor the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) bought any vehicle for the outgoing Headmaster to warrant the spate of attack on the college.

They, therefore, assured friends, loved ones and stakeholders that nothing untoward took place as far as they were concerned, and therefore entreated all to assist in separating personal issues from official ones in order not to dent the hard-earned reputation of the institution.

There was public outrage especially from the PTA when news broke that Reverend Graham was taking home four luxurious vehicles as his retirement package.

The Adisadel Old Boys Association had called on the Board of Governors and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate the alleged mouth-watering retirement package given to Rev Graham.

The Old Boys in a statement issued and signed by the Association?s Secretary, Solomon Allotey, said, ?The association has petitioned the Board of Governors, the Ministry of Education and the GES to thoroughly investigate the reports and take appropriate action.?

The statement said, ?The association has endorsed the directive of the GES to the outgoing Headmaster to refund all monies imposed on students and parents towards the retirement package.?
It further said, ?The Association has resolved to ensure assure all Santaclausians, parents and potential students that the Old Boys Association will leave no stone unturned in its efforts to help restore the positive image of the college.?
