ISAAC AIDOO, the new lawyer representing Sheriff Christian Asem Dakey yesterday prayed an Accra Fast Track High Court for an adjournment to enable him to prepare adequately in dealing with the matter.
The lawyer who took over the case after Asem Dakey?s former lawyer, George Heward-Mills informed the court that he would no more represent him, yesterday, told the court in chambers that he had gone through the record of proceedings and was ready to continue with the matter.
Asem Dakey was supposed to open his defence but due to the prayer of his lawyer, the court, presided over by Justice Mustapha Logoh, adjourned the matter to February 5, 2014.
The suspect was informed by Justice Logoh of Heward-Mills? decision not to represent him, but Darkey, who was arrested over the disappearance of 77 parcels of cocaine in 2006, told the trial judge politely that he was not aware.
The accused person has been charged with conspiracy, importation and exportation of narcotic drugs following his arrest on February 2 after going into hiding in 2006.
He was ordered to open his defence after prosecution closed its case.
So far, seven witnesses have testified in the trial, including chief Inspector Charles Adaba, the investigator.
