Liberty Professionals trainer J.E Sarpong insists he will not back down on his infamous ‘a referee will be shot one day’ comment and says he does not fear to be sanctioned.
The former Great Olympics coach went berserk and accused controversial referee Awal Mohammed of bias officiating.
This was after his side threw away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 at New Edubiase in the Ghana Premier League last Sunday.
Sarpong will meet the ethics committee of the Ghana Federation on Tuesday to offer answers on his explosive comment after it received widespread condemnation.
But the experienced tactician is unfazed about the charges and says he stands by his comment.
“I am not afraid to be banned. It won’t be the first time such a thing has happened to me anyway,” Sarpong said
“The truth of the matter is that some of these bad referees must be told in plain language that they’re tarnishing our hard work with such dubious decisions.
“If I am used as scapegoat, so be it. Stand by it and won’t retract at all.
“I am a top official of the Association of coaches in Ghana and so I must speak for the majority of them who fear to come out due to fear of being victimized.”
His comment is seen as ammunition to fans to attack referees in the country.
Sarpong could face sanctions including a two month ban and a fine if charged by the committee.
