Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a University of Ghana political science lecturer, has condemned the government following the death of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) emergency physician Dr. Kwame Adu Ofori.

During a JoyNews interview, Asah-Asante described the incident as emblematic of systemic state failure.

He stated publicly: “We must bow our heads in shame,” characterizing the physician’s death as avoidable and unjust. Asah-Asante linked the tragedy to broader national leadership failures and institutional neglect, urging citizens to demand accountability from authorities.

The lecturer emphasized that reclaiming national pride requires organized civic action. “We need to organise ourselves to feel belonging to this state—prepared to fight and die for it when necessary,” he asserted. Addressing Ghana’s brain drain, Asah-Asante attributed young professionals’ exodus directly to governance shortcomings.

“Leaders complain about youth fleeing, but who can blame them when leadership fails?” he questioned, calling on voters to remove underperforming officials. His remarks highlight mounting scrutiny of public service delivery under the current Mahama administration.
