Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State?on Tuesday?night witnessed serious attacks by gunmen who stormed four villages around Fadan Karshi district of the Council leaving behind 45 persons dead.

?In addition, a serving Pastor with ECWA Church and a woman were equally killed by the gunmen.

Eye witnesses? accounts said the marauding herdsmen attacked women who were returning to their villages after attending the market at Fadan Karshi.

He said: ?Victims of the attack were mostly women. The terrorists also killed a soldier and injured another when troops moved in to stave off further attacks on the villagers.

?As I speak to you now, some of the soldiers ran into the bush as they were overwhelmed by the number of the herdsmen who were out to annihilate anyone they come in contact with.?

Another sources told?Per Second News?that at Ungwar Ganye area of the town, several homes destroyed by the gunmen while at Karshi Daji, no fewer than 30 corpses were recovered, with houses destroyed.

It was gathered that the deadly gunmen also killed 12 persons at Fadan Karshi, just as they razed down houses and burnt cars among others at Angwar Bauchi.

The National President of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), Dr. Ephraim Goje, who confirmed the attacks to our correspondent, called on the state government to do all within its power to arrest the situation, saying that there seems to be persons close to the seat of power who are desirous of not finding solution to the crisis by frustrating the inauguration of the Kaduna State Committee to Stamp out Attacks on Southern Kaduna Communities.

He said: ?The Kaduna State Government set up a committee three months ago under the leadership of General Samuel Iliya (rtd) to look into the problems of incessant attacks on Southern Kaduna communities, but as I speak to you, that committee has never held its inaugural meeting.

?Membership of the committee included the State Commissioner of Police, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Kaduna Division, Director, Department of State Services (DSS), representative of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Miyyetti Allah, Jama?atul Nasril Islam (JNI), among others.

?When it was discovered that the chairman of the committee, General Iliya was so much engaged in the current Sudan peace initiatives, the state government appointed AVM Adamu Mbaka (retd) to chair the committee.

?When Mbaka attempted to hold the inaugural meeting of the committee three weeks ago, the JNI, Miyyeti Allah, the SSG, Commissioner of Police, DSS Director??and the GOC, among others, were conspicuously absent. Was there a deliberate attempt by someone in government to frustrate the committee?s work? If the committee had sat since, I believe the government would have find solution to the incessant attacks on Southern Kaduna,? Goje said.

It was further gathered that following the renewed attack on Karshi, frightened villagers fled their homes for fear of further attack by the gunmen. This is just as the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp is swelling with large number of people.

The SOKAPU national President therefore called on the state government and the National Emergence Management Agency (NEMA) to move in and assist the IDPs, adding that the incessant attacks are capable of making life difficult for villagers whose farming activities have been disrupted.

Goje further said: ?We fear that the people may suffer hunger as their activities have been disrupted by these attacks. Our people have not been able to concentrate on their farmlands, and so it is expected that they may face hunger. We call on NEMA to come to the rescue of our people and we also call on well-meaning Nigerians to come to the rescue of the victims.?

Efforts made by our correspondent to speak to the Kaduna State Commissioner of Information, Mr. Ben Ashafa were unsuccessful as his phone number could not be reached.

Curiously however, neither the state government nor the police has issued a statement on the incident.
