LCD Commended For Implementing CBE Program

Link Community Development (LCD), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) implementing the Complementary Basic Education (CBE) programme has been lauded for successfully implementing phase one of the scheme.school

It was aimed at getting children of school going – age enrolled.

The LCD in collaboration with Kassena -Nankana Municipal and Kassena ?Nankana West District Directorates of Education through funding from the Department For International Development and the Government, had trained 1,220 children, who would be integrated into the mainstream basic school system in September.
Mr Augustine Ayirezang, who superintends over the two Directorates made the commendation when the NGO organised a ceremony in Navrongo, at the weekend to honour the facilitators who took the children from the ages of eight to 14 years through nine months training in basic numeracy and literacy skills.
The District Director said education as a social enterprise needs the collaborative efforts of stakeholders.

He said the CBE programme was in line with the 2010 -2020 Education Strategic Plan, which among other things focused on achieving the universal access to education for all and promoting gender equality and empowerment of women.
In a speech read on his behalf, Acting Upper East Regional Director of Education, Mr Emmanuel Samba Zemakpeh gave the assurance that an enabling environment would be created to ensure the retention of the children in school.

Mr Samuel Ofori Boakye, Programme Coordinator of LCD commended the facilitators for their hard work and announced that plans are far advanced to begin the second phase of the programme.

He called on parents to ensure that they release their children to attend the classes.
As part of the acknowledgement of the work of the facilitators, each of them was presented with a bicycle, certificate and cash.
