To improve human resource base

The Kwaebibirem District Assembly in the Eastern Region headed by Mr Reginald Emmanuel Aboagye Osae, has since last year executed about 66 social interventions and infrastructural development projects to improve the life of the people in the district.

The projects ranged from the construction of small town water supply systems, rehabilitation of boreholes, CHIPS compounds to clinics, a modern children’s ward at Kade and Akwatia hospitals, agric quarters and the improved sawmill and oil palm facilities.

Forty-one (41) out of the 66 projects include teachers’ bungalows, staff quarters for teachers, dormitories, assembly halls and about 20 classroom blocks for pre-schools, primary and senior high schools.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Kwaebibirem District Assembly who disclosed this in an interview with Today in his office at the Assembly said the projects were made possible through contributions by the new diamond investor, Great Consolidated Diamond Ghana Limited District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and internally generated funds (IGF) of the assembly.

Flanked by the Kwaebibirem District Coordinating Director, Mr. S.A. Larbi, Presiding Member, Kwaku Oforo-Abrokwaa, Assistant District Coordinating Director, Peter Sae Afari and the District Budget Analyst, Iddrisu Billa, the DCE revealed that out the 66 projects, about 30 of them have been completed and remaining 36 on-going.

Mr. Sae stressed the desire of the Assembly to improve upon the quality of education in the district, adding that there was the need to develop the human resource base of the areas to secure its future.

To this end, he noted that as part of the Better Agenda Agenda of the NDC government, the district has distributed Free School Uniforms, Free Exercise Books, expanded the School Feeding Programme, free mass distribution of treated mosquito nets and social interventions.

Commenting on the security situation in the district, Mr. Sae commended all the security agencies for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace in the district despite the few land disputes.

He disclosed that 80 per cent of communities across the district had been connected to the national grid under the rural electrification project as part of measures to facilitate efforts at creating a light industrial and rural enterprise development.

On revenue mobilization, Mr. Sae appealed to the residents to pay their taxes so that the Assembly would be able to raise enough funds to carry out developments for the benefit of all.
