Ghanaian midfielder Gershon Koffie produced a sterling performance to cancel league leaders San Jose Earthquakes lead in the Major League Soccer (MLS) league in Vancouver on Saturday.
The 20-year-old former Inter Allies star placed the ball beyond the reach of advancing goalkeeper Jon Busch, after receiving a perfect pass to send the 19, 271 Vancouver Whitecaps fans into a frenzy state.
The equalizer urged Whitecaps, who are fourth on the table, to fight relentlessly, resulting in a stoppage time goal through Eric Hassli to end Earthquake’s seven-match unbeaten run.
Earthquakes lead the points table with 22 points, five points ahead of Vancouver.
Koffie joined Vancouver last season and is hoping to replicate the feat in subsequent games.
