Common sense can oftentimes be so intricate in application. The word is seen to be used indiscriminately but common sense may not be common to everybody or to common people. What may be common sense to you may be a herculean task to the other person since we have different levels of understanding by different people.
If everyone was to have the same level of understanding, seeing things and evaluating them from the same perspective, there will never be misunderstanding or wars or differences of opinion among people in the world. The world would be a utopia. However, that is not the case. It may be for a good reason that differences of opinion exist among people and common sense not being common to all.
It is said, when you always find every society that you frequent, or members of each community that you interact with, as bad, then you had better re-examine yourself and your ways. It could be that you are the bad nut without knowing. How could everyone you come into contact with be bad but you? You must be bad yourself to not be able to associate with others peacefully.
Why will everybody want to hate or smear you? Why would you think people are on intentional mission to soil your reputation if you had been doing good things? It is not always that people hate others out of simply being envious of their success, beauty or intelligence. It could be for the fact that the person seeing others as slurring him or her for no apparent reason is himself or herself bad to others in many ways.
Internet columnists are the most insulted persons. Much as we tackle various sensitive topics in our discussions or write-ups, sometimes poking nerves unnecessarily, those commenting on the published articles often descend insultingly on us like a ton of falling bricks.
I can hardly pinpoint a columnist who is luckily insulated against insults unlike some politicians whose illegally acquired wealth are probably more than enough to cushion them against insults. Some politicians may have thick skin like that of the elephant to protect them against insults, good luck to them and bad luck for those they were meant to serve. Because of having such tough skins against insults, condemnations and questioning, they often commit crimes of embezzlements, corruption etc., against the governed with impunity. I wish they never had that type of skin.
Why not do the right thing to avoid searching for unnecessary explanations to justify your actions or exonerate yourself from blame knowing very well that others may eagerly question such habits of yours? That is common sense “innit abi?”
