Remodeling work on Job 600, a post independence edifice, is now scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2012, as it is currently 75% completed.
Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, announced this during a day’s working visit to the facility on Tuesday to ascertain the extent of work done on the structure.
Addressing the press after touring the edifice, Mr. Mensah noted that the structure, when completed, is expected to house up to 275 modern offices for Members of Parliament (MPs) and their research assistants.
He gave an assurance that the project would this time around be completed without any impediment as funds and all needed materials have been provided.
Mr. Mensah noted that all the challenges that were slowing the project had been addressed and therefore there was no way the contractors could give any excuses.
He stressed that the project when completed would be able to house the new stock of MPs together with the old ones.
There will be no cases of theft because CCTV cameras will be monitoring the activities of the workers so no worker can steal any material that could have negative impact on the project.
Ekow Bentsi-Enchill, Resident Engineer of ADK Consortium, told DAILY GUIDE in an interview that by May 2012, 300 containers of construction materials and equipment meant for the project would be received to facilitate speedy completion of the edifice.
He said the China State Hualong Construction Company, was employed a year-and-half ago to complete the rehabilitation project at a total cost of $50 million.
The Job 600 project is the conversion of the State House Tower Block into office of parliament.
The State House Tower Block was built by the administration of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President to accommodate participants attending the OAU (now African Union) Conference held in Accra in 1965.
