

The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications on Wednesday presented computers and accessories to 40 Community Information Centres (CICS).
The 600 computers and accessories are meant to improve the teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the various communities where the CIC?s are centered.
The beneficiaries had 15 computers each and were Agona CICS, Kuntunase CICS, New Edubiase CICS, Mampongteng CICS, Tepa CICS, Mehame CICS, Afransi CICS, Gomoa Pinanko CICS, Mankron CICS, Cape Coast CICS, Mankesim CICS, Aburi CICS, Tease CICS, New Tafo CICS, Adukrom CICS, Community 22 CICS, Dawhenya CICS, Tamale Girls CICS and Tamale Business Senior High.
The rest are UDS Campus CICS, Yagaba CICS, Nalerigu CICS, Bole CICS, Yendi CICS, Zebilla CICS, Baseble CICS, Kaleo CICS, Aveme Beme CICS, Hlefi CICS, Mepe CICS, Juapong CICS, Tegbi CICS, Akatsi CICS, Dzodze CICS, Tsito CICS, Samreboi CICS, Mpohor Akotombra CICS and Half Assini CICS.
Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Communications, who presented the computers, said the computers were to help promote ICT in the communities where the CICs are centered.
He said CICS were to provide avenues for internet connectivity, business processes and postal services.
Mr. Kofi Attor, Administrator and Chief Executive Officer of GIFEC, said??the way forward for teaching and learning in the institution was through ICT which should be prioritized at all levels in educational institutions.
He said the major aspect of GIFEC was to provide educational institutions and CICs with high speed computers as well as link them to the internet.
Mr. Attor said the CICs would be monitored by the GIFEC monitoring team and the Ministry of Communication to ensure appropriate care of the machines by the CIC?s managers.
