You have your way, I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way and the only way, it doesn?t exist. Those were the words of the famous psychologist Friedrich Nietzche. Thinking about those words as related to man in his everyday social interactions, I cant help but realize that each and every one of us possesses a unique quality or a set of striking characteristics which clearly defines us as an individual.

This brings us to the concept of individuality. Individuality is a distinct entity, an aggregate of qualities and characteristics which sets someone or something apart from the others. It wouldn?t be fair to mention individuality without actually probing deep into its core; knowing its formation and how it is crusted. Individuality stems from the individuals perception of himself, in the other words the individuals identity.

An identity which I would define to the best of my understanding and which is solely a subjective view of mine is basically the beliefs we have about ourselves, our sense of certainty about who we really are. It creates the boundaries and limits within which we live. It is what it is based on the decisions we make based on the beliefs we have and what we have decided to fuse ourself with. The beliefs am referring to covers every aspect of the individuals life; from our religious beliefs to how we belief a backpack should be arranged. As bizarre as this might seem, it is the beliefs we have about someone or something that acts as the standard to which we judge them. When you feel a person is dishonest you would always find reasons to justify your beliefs about that person even if he is actually honest. It is the persons identity which forms his or her individuality.

The essence of individuality is standing out, being different, being distinct. It has these aura of confidence and self assurance about it. It doesn?t seek permission or rely on others before? carrying out what he thinks is right. In the present day society, people tend to doubt a lot of things about themselves. They fear expressing themselves or voicing out their opinion may draw ridicule or worse still they may be tagged as being stupid. Setting trends, for people like that tends to become an experience as fearful as death itself. Most individuals cant handle stuffs like that so they tend to cave-in, to conform, to blend with the everyday shuffling of the crowd.

Being yourself and truly believing in who you are strengthens your individuality. Sometimes you conform, sometimes? you stand out. But what really is important is not losing yourself in the everyday battle for survival. In being able to hold dear the values you posses and those you aim for. In being the you that you are and in amplifying it to best possible realm of the human existence. It is what makes you unique. And unique is intriguing especially in todays world where the community demands we conform.
