Journalists facing danger at work can attend this free webinar.
ICFJ Anywhere is offering the first in a series of webinars, supported by Dow Jones. Digital and mobile security is critically important for journalists and bloggers who work in challenging conditions. This webinar will highlight a combination of new and classic tools to protect journalists in the digital era.
The hour-long discussion, led by ICFJ Knight International Journalism Fellow Jorge Luis Sierra, will begin at at 12:00 p.m. EST (Noon) on Tuesday, Dec. 17. The webinar will be hosted through Google+ Hangout here, which will be created on the same date of the event.
Participants can enter the channel here at noon to see the Hangout and participate sending questions via the YouTube chat.
During the webinar, Sierra will review tools and strategies that can help reduce risks. He will address how to:
- Protect computers and mobile devices
- Establish safe communications among editors, reporters and sources
- Basic – sometimes neglected – best practices that help reduce risk
He also will open the discussion to participants to share their experiences and especially their security strategies and tools.
Jorge Luis Sierra is a leading international investigative journalist. As an ICFJ Knight Fellow, he has partnered with Freedom House to launch mapping platforms that track attacks and threats against journalists in Mexico and Iraq. In November, ICFJ and Freedom House released his manual outlining safety protocols and tools for journalists in Latin America (in Spanish).
