The parents at an end of year Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting said the school building posed life threatening dangers to their kids and that they could not risk sending their children to the school next academic year.
The Regional Model School Complex, with pupil population of about 900 is gradually rotting away as several petitions sent to education authorities have failed to yield meaningful results.
Checks by the Ghana News Agency revealed that some of the classrooms have become death traps with exposed live wires and an awful ceiling with open spaces.
Mawutor Wovenu, Chairman of the School’s PTA, said as a model school they expected some level of attention and not “total abandonment.”
He said the School’s PTA was struggling to put up a three storey building because, “the classroom block promised us and started by the late Volta Regional Minister Ford Kamel, under GetFund ended with his him.”
Mr Wovenu said the School’s six years old GETFund project had changed hands (contractors) about three times and it is still uncompleted, compelling the school authorities to merge two classes into one with about 90 pupils in a class.
Mr Adzome Emmanuel Yaw, Assembly Member for the area, said the School has not been renovated since its establishment in 1982.
He said whenever it rained pupils and teachers had to gather at a secluded place or stand on desks to escape flooded rooms.
Mr Adzome called on stakeholders to help rescue the school from total collapse.
