DSP Ochiobi was attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Onitsha

A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Onitsha, Emmanuel Ochiobi, was murdered by gunmen in Onitsha, Anambra State on Monday.

Ochiobi, who was attached to the Central Police Station Onitsha before his death, was shot by two men riding a motorcycle at about 9.30a.m. on Okosi Street, Onitsha.

A police source, who requested anonymity, said the deceased reported in his office at about 9a.m. before taking his car to a mechanic workshop.

“At the mechanic workshop, he was joined by another senior colleague, the Divisional Crime Officer at the Inland Police Station, Onitsha,” the source said.

“While they were discussing, two unidentified men on a motorcycle pulled up about a pole away and immediately opened fire on the DSP who was backing the road.”

The other officer escaped unhurt.

Ochiobi is the second senior police officer in the station to be killed by gunmen in three weeks.
