Gunmen Saturday night attacked a bar at Isale in Burundi’s Bujumbura Rural Province, 30 km east of the capital Bujumbura, killing the administrator of Isale commune and injuring three, witnesses told Xinhua Sunday.
“Gunmen attacked a bar located at Rushubi town near the office of the governor of Bujumbura Rural Province and also the office of the Administrator of Isale. Administrator Pontien Barutwanayo, who was seemingly the target of the gunmen, died on the spot. One among the three injured persons was seriously injured,” said the witnesses.
According to them, the three injured persons who were taking drinks along with the administrator were rushed to hospital.
Pontien Nderagakura was a member of the National Liberation Forces (FNL) and loyal to Agathon Rwasa who has become the First Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly.
During the last two weeks, the Burundian National Independent Human Rights Commission earlier this week said that more than 20 persons were killed in selective killings in post-election violence. Enditem
