Brigadier General Zibri Bawah Ayorrogo, Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA-CD), has emphasized that no nation can thrive or develop without taxes.
He urged business owners to fulfill their tax obligations to avoid the potential closure of their businesses or companies.
During a working visit to the Sunyani Collection, Brigadier General Ayorrogo told the media that the GRA does not enjoy closing down businesses, and it is not their preferred option.
However, he pointed out that some business owners deliberately avoid paying taxes, making enforcement necessary.
He stressed that taxes are essential for the country’s development, as they enable the government to meet its obligations and provide the services and infrastructure that citizens expect.
He also emphasized that it is the duty of every citizen to contribute by paying taxes to realize national development.
The Commissioner dispelled public perceptions that the GRA’s role is to intimidate business owners, stating that the division follows legal procedures and rules to ensure tax compliance.
He added that the Customs Division has invested heavily in capacity building and training to ensure professionalism in their operations.
Brigadier General Ayorrogo urged staff members to work harder to meet their targets.
