
Mukhtar Yero, the Governor of Kaduna State on Monday applauded the efforts of security agencies in tackling the security challenges bedevilling the nation. Yero gave the commendation during the launch of the 2013 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem in Kaduna.
?The activities of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day should, therefore remind us of these sacrifices and the need to alleviate the sufferings of all those who laid their lives so that we may live.
?While we pay tribute to the fallen heroes, our profound gratitude also goes to the living heroes.”
The governor appealed to various military formations, the private sector and wealthy individuals to support the legionaries due to their immense contributions to peaceful coexistence in the country. He advised the ex-service men to establish profitable ventures and to utilise the state poverty alleviation scheme in order to improve their living condition.
Earlier, the Chairman of the ex-servicemen, Col. Haliru Ibrahim (rtd) said the legionnaires had played vital role in the maintenance of peace and unity in the state. Ibrahim appealed to the state government to allocate a piece of land for the building of a permanent secretariat, a vehicle and sponsorship of members to pilgrimages in Saudi Arabia and Israel.
