The Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Kwaku Agyemang – Mensah, has stated emphatically that government of Ghana has put in adequate measures that will help prevent the deadly Ebola virus disease from entering the country.
Adding that the government is well committed to protecting Ghanaians and all the people living in the country. The Sector Minister gave the assurance when he presented Personal Protective Equipment to all tertiary institutions across the country in Accra.
The equipment include: 600 pieces of disposal mask, 630 pieces of surgical gloves, 432 pieces of Face Shield, 500 pieces of Goggles, 50 pieces of Aprons and 50 pieces of Overall Yellow gown. This he said, the equipment are to help the institutions to check on suspected persons but not for screening purposes. ” This outbreak has proven to be the largest outbreak ever , given its spread across 5 countries .
The current Ebola outbreak in West Africa is known to be one of the most challenging the World Health Organization and its partners have ever faced, necessitating WHO to declare it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern”. He therefore commended Port Health, Ghana Immigration Service and Customs Exercise and Preventive Officers for working around the clock to ensure that all entering points are secured.
He also entreated all and sundry in the country to develop positive characters towards sanitation and personal hygiene in order to avoid the outbreak of cholera and other diseases.
The Minister of Education Prof. Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang explained
that her outfit intended to delay the reopening of schools so that the
government can put in place preventive measures against the Ebola
virus since there numerous students coming the sister countries who being affected by the disease.
She said in order to overcome the fear which has gripped the people of Ghana, there is a need for all and sundry to have adequate information on the disease especially on how detect simple symptoms of the disease in order to take immediate action against it.
The Vice Chancellor of University of Professional Studies Prof. Joshua Alabi,protective who received the items on behalf of the tertiary institutions in the country commended the government for taking such a timely intervention; adding that the protective gears will be used judiciously in order to prevent the entering of the Ebola virus into the country.
