He said construction works on the Nadowli-Lawra-Hamile road was ongoing while 70 kilometres of the Tumu-Han road had been awarded on contract with the the Wa-Dorimon and Tumu-Wellembelle roads to be rehabilitated soon.

roadThe Fian-Han road and the Wa Airstrip are under contract to start commercial flights by the end of 2016, Alhaji Sulemana told a cross section of retirees as part of activities to mark the Republic Day celebration in Wa.

He said the region had received road equipment from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for use by the municipal and district assemblies to reshape the deteriorated portions of the roads.

Alhaji Sulemana said despite those development projects, the region was still faced with challenges like armed robbery, illegal mining activities, theft of motorcycles and homes being burgled with illegal logging of rosewood trees.

He reminded the retirees that they formed part and parcel of the wealth of Ghana, hence their suggestions were welcomed to help build on the foundation they had laid.

He urged them to be agents of peace in the communities in this election year, adding; “there is the need for tolerance and circumspection in all our actions so that we can have a peaceful society to pursue our development agenda.”

Some of the retirees appealed to the Government to consider increasing their pensions which they described as meagre to cater for their health and economic needs.
