Abia State Government under the current Governor met zero infrastructure on ground and he is committed at leaving all the essential infrastructures as his legacy projects for Abians.
But the degree of dilapidation and neglect and negligence and In Aba from 1999 till 2007, so my question is ?How many industries did the government established or revived in the state? How many youths did they empowered then? Why did the government bequeath a huge debt for the incoming government in 2007? What was the state of infrastructure and security in the state then and now? ?It is a fact that the present government has constructed and is still constructing many roads in Aba and other parts of the state. Almost every sector of the economy is experiencing government Intervention ranging from agriculture to health and
the state is better for it.
Orji?s administration is a turning point in the history of Abia State for the 21 years the state has been in existence. It is a major milestone. Now let me categorise the achievements in four parameters. They are: democratisation, security, infrastructural administrative foundation and re-orientation. These are the four major planks the governor is using in his transformation agenda. We call him the Legacy Governor because in the next few years when anybody visits the state, the person will be pointing at very many things, policies, enduring institutions, attitudinal dispositions. And when you point to those things, people will say, it was when T. A. Orji was governor that those things came to be.
Let?s start with democratisation. Before Orji became governor, starting from 1999 when we had what I will call a civilian administration, because that was not democracy, while other people across the country were transiting from the military rule to some form of democracy, Abia was decending from military rule to more insidious and dangerous dictatorship. I was at a time part of Orji Kalu?s government and you will weep the way he ran his government, his impusive and volatile way of doing things. It was a situation where instead of government of the people by the people and for the people you had government of one family, by one family and for one family. It was a suation where every member of the family was brought into government, adequately empowered to make the family become more or less a monarchy in a so-called democratic dispensation. Between 1999 and 2007 Abia became absolutely polarised. There were the Abuja group and the home group that were at daggers drawn with Kalu. The state became politically volatile; citizens were called talibans in their own state. This climaxed into serious security challenges up to the point where the former governor had to bring in a barbaric outfit called the Bakassi Boys and used it in such a manner that there was so much extra-judicial killings on the streets of Abia State because of the charged political atmosphere. It was a time of retrogression that beset the state.
This was the subsisting situation in 2007 when Orji became the governor. So between 2007 and 2010 everything he did was to restore political peace and harmony, which climaxed to a point where Abia citizens could no longer come home.
God allowed Orji to come into the Court of Pharaoh, which was the former governor the same way he used Moses to understudy the system of the Egyptian Pharaoh. He empowered him at the right time to set the children of Abia free the same way it happened in Egypt without shedding blood. Liberation of Abia State from the clutches of Kalu dynasty is the greatest achievement of Orji.
Abia was delivered from the clutches of political polarity, from the clutches of despolition, exploitation and dehumanisation. This is the greatest achievement of Governor Orji.? To us in Abia, it is a victory. Every Abia indigene knows what we are talking about. Those who are outside may not understand because it takes somebody who has been under bondage to appreciate the value of freedom.? As I said people went to exile in the state because of the situation of things. The governor has been able to democratise the state, and power is in the hands of the people. What we had was a triumph of liberty.
