Google has released its most minimalist smartphone yet, with the Pixel 10a arriving on March 5, 2026 at a starting price of $499, distinguished most visibly by a completely flat back that eliminates the camera bump that has defined smartphone design for years.

The camera bar on the Pixel 10a sits flush within the matte rear panel rather than protruding above it, meaning the device rests flat on any surface without wobbling. It is a design choice that Google’s own reviewers described as the “logical conclusion” of a direction the company began with the Pixel 9a. The practical benefits extend beyond aesthetics. A flat profile is easier to case, less prone to lens scratches, and more structurally sound than the raised camera islands that have become standard across the industry.

The camera hardware itself remains unchanged from the Pixel 9a, with a 48 megapixel main sensor and a 13 megapixel ultrawide, supplemented by Google’s AI-powered photography tools including Auto Best Take and Camera Coach. Camera Coach, powered by Google’s Gemini AI (Artificial Intelligence) models, provides real-time guidance on framing, lighting, and composition while shooting.

The Pixel 10a is powered by the Tensor G4 chip and ships with Android 16, backed by seven years of software and security updates. Other upgrades over its predecessor include Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection, Bluetooth 6.0, Satellite SOS emergency connectivity, and faster 30-watt wired charging. The 6.3-inch display is 11 percent brighter than the Pixel 9a, reaching a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.

The phone is available in four colours: Obsidian, Fog, Lavender, and Berry.
