Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has described as shocking, the news of the demise of the Emir of Gombe, HRH Alhaji Shehu Usman Abubakar.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, Tambuwal described the late traditional ruler as a man of peace whose reign brought about unprecedented development in Gombe Emirate.
He said the deceased was a man of conviction who earned the respect of his subjects and outsiders alike.
The Emir gave up the ghost on Tuesday evening at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Fulham Road, London, the United Kingdom, after a protracted battle with cancer.
The late emir would be flown back to Gombe on Wednesday after which he would be buried according Islamic rights.
He was the chairman of the Gombe State Council of Traditional Rulers and had been on the throne since January 1984.
