Goldfields builds a laboratory for UMat

The Company through its Foundation had also awarded scholarships and given allowances to 98 students to study mining-related courses at the University.

The General Manager of the Company, Mr Michiel Van Der Merwe, made this known at the presentation of a drilling rig to the University at Tarkwa.

He said the rig was acquired by the company five years ago at the cost of $ 712,893.68, but decided to offer the machine to the University, in order to enhance the practical work of the students.

He said the Company is committed to support the University in promoting quality education.

Mr Merwe commended the University for the immense contribution it had made towards mining.

The Vice Chancellor of UMaT, Professor Jerry Kuma, expressed gratitude to the company for the gesture and indicated that the equipment would help students learning drilling-related courses to do more practical training in the next academic year.
